Following the successful re-development of Elliott’s Field Shopping Park Hammerson purchased the adjacent site of the former Tribune Trading Estate on Leicester Road in July 2016 to develop a home furnishings-led shopping destination. Whilst linked to Elliott’s Field Phase 1 the new phase works as a stand-alone development separated by a public highway which has a new bespoke shared surface crossing connecting the Phase 1 and Phase 2 promenades.

The development consists of a new terrace of 8 shops with ground floor footprints ranging from 15,000 sq ft to 7,500 sq ft. At the end of the terrace a new Starbucks coffee unit addresses the shared surface crossover. The promenade is enhanced by feature louvres, back lit signage and a ‘striped carpet’ created from block paving slabs.

A standalone unit for Sofology addresses the site entrance and is designed as a ‘gatehouse’ building to define the park entrance. A feature curving and stepping stone gabion wall wraps around the southern corner of the building defining the entrance to the shopping park. This hard gabion shell reveals an elegant softer timber and glass construction addressing the customer facing area of the shopping park. The lightness of the design with a slim line canopy and louvers will allow for open views into and out of the unit through its double height capless glazing.

As well as the development’s green credentials the project is the first BIM Level 2 shopping park for Hammerson utilising clash detection and Cobie data drops throughout the design process.

The park opened to the public in November 2017 just 2 years from the initial feasibility studies.
