The Atelier,

The 43 unit development, The Atelier, sits within a conservation area to the west of Kensington. Contained within a 7 storey building, it is designed around landscaped courtyard gardens featuring terraces at different levels over a basement car park. There are also retained Victorian building elements integrated into the scheme.

PWA were appointed by Regal London as Lead Designer post-planning for this sensitive Victorian infill development conceptually designed by Hopkins Architects. The building contains a mix of one, two & three-bed residential units with communal facilities that include a gym, cinema, concierge, amenity gardens and underground parking which is accessed via a car lift. Sedum and Biodiverse roofs are a strong design feature integrating the building into the gardens.

Close liaison with the local authority, considered detailing and material choices were required to discharge the planning conditions on this sensitive urban infill development. Complex construction detailing was also necessary in order to satisfy the party wall negotiations on this constrained site.

BIM was utilised in order to solve the complex and varied construction issues, with PWA managing the federated model and undertaking clash detection on a regular basis. The project started on-site in June 2017 and completed in Summer 2019.
